Flaking

Owing to the design and structure of a Topseal laminate it is very rare to find an example of "surface flaking". However the example on the right illustrates what can occasionally happen.
Topseal although made up of a Base coat and a Top coat is really a single coating. This is because we apply the top coat just as the base coat has gelled therefore allowing the layers to cure as one. This ensures that we achieve the strongest coating possible. For this reason it is very rare to see an example of delamination (flaking).

If delamination of the top coat does occur it is usually owing to the surface of the base coat having become contaminated prior to the top coat being applied. This occurs where it has not been possible to lay the top coat immediately after the base coat has gelled. In such an instance the contamination is usually nothing more than moisture. Therefore if a top coat is to applied at a later date and after the base coat has fully cured it is imperitive that the roof is fully dry and that it is wiped clean with acetone before applying the top coat.
