Ponding

Although some Ponding can be expected with all Flat Roofs, it can be limited by ensuring that an adequate "fall" is built into the design of the roof. Unfortunately when refurbishing an existing roof this is not always possible unless additional costs are incurred.

With a Topseal roof ponding is not a problem as the laminate forms a complete monolithic roof covering. There are therefore no joins or welds which will allow any ingress of water from even the deepest of puddles. Unlike traditional felt coverings a Topseal roof will not become absorbent and subsequently hold water. Any water that does collect will usually dry out rapidly through normal weathering.

However, if the area is to be used as a walkway or balcony where standing water might be a problem it is advisable to ensure prior to the laminate being applied that ample "fall" is incorporated into the roof design. Prior to the new deck being laid firings can be added to the rafters to increase the "fall" as required.
