On
rare occasions, when roofs are found to be sticky longer than usual
following installation, the cause is most likely to be that the
Resin has not fully cured. This is nearly always because of one
of two reasons. Firstly, owing to a drop in temperature whilst the
laminate was being installed the resin is taking slightly longer
to fully cure. In that instance there should be no cause for concern
as once the laminate has "gelled" (become firm but tacky to the
touch) the roof is fully weatherproofed and CANNOT leak. Curing
may in cold weather take as long as 3-4 weeks, sometimes longer.
The second reason is that a lower percentage of catalyst was added
to the resin. Again as long as the resin has "gelled" it will harden
but can take a little longer depending on the ambient weather conditions.
If
a roof fails to fully cure after 3-4 weeks it is most likely that
the laminate was laid in wet or damp conditions or that the decking
was moist prior to laying. Topseal should never be laid in these
conditions and advice should be sought from our technical department.
